Athletics

RJC offers many opportunities to participate in competative inter-school sports.

Athletics at RJC

RJC offers many exciting opportunities for athletic participation on varsity teams.

Athletic programs are outlined below.

Volleyball

RJC Volleyball

Volleyball at RJC has historically been a strong, competitive program while allowing most interested students to participate.

The volleyball teams have a full season, with games and tournaments running from September into November where athletes learn both the technical aspect of the sport as well as team building.  The current coaches of the teams have many years of experience in the sport and have both been involved in provincial championship teams in the past.

Last season, the teams had successful seasons with both teams winning at least one tournament.  The girls team was one of the top 8 3A teams in the province and the boys team, while narrowly missing a provincial berth, was the team that came the closest to beating the provincial champions of any other 3A team.

Basketball

RJC Basketball

Both Boys and Girls Basketball is offered.

Boys Basketball

The RJC boys basketball team finished the 2010/2011 season with a 19-5 record, winning 3 tournaments and bowing out on their

quest for a provincial championship in the conference play-offs.

Coach Joel Driedger is looking forward to building on the team’s success and having a great season next year.

Soccer

Boys and Girls Soccer.

2009 Provincial 1A Champions - RJC Girls Soccer
2009 Provincial 7-man Silver Medalists - RJC Boys Soccer

Football

Rosthern Junior College and Rosthern High School combine forces to compete in provinical 6-man football play.

Rosthern Longhorns Football

The Rosthern Longhorns football team is a cooperative effort of both the Rosthern High School and Rosthern Junior College.  Coaches are Ralph Epp (RHS), Jim Epp (RJC) and Nic Fast (RJC).

The 21 players on the team  worked hard in practice to become a cohesive and supportive team and completed a successful regular season with a perfect 7-0 won loss record.  This is the second year in a row that the Longhorns have enjoyed an undefeated regular season.

The Longhorns hosted their first game in SHSAA Provincial Playoff competition, defeating Canora and went on to lose in the provincial semi-final to Watrous who won the provincial 6 man 2A championship.  The Longhorns are looking forward to another strong team in 2011 that will again compete for the provincial gold!!

2009:  North-Central League Champions, 6-man - Rosthern Longhorns
2008:  Provincial 6-man quarterfinalists - Rosthern Longhorns

Badminton

RJC Badminton

A popular short term sport, Badminton teams are formed in categories of boys and girls singles and boys, girls and mixed doubles. Badminton is played in March.

The badminton team at RJC has enjoyed great success in recent years.  The season is short, but offers the chance for students to increase their badminton knowledge and compete in the provincial playoffs.  Students can play singles, doubles, or mixed badminton.

In the past two years, players from RJC have won one provincial gold, two provincial silver medals as well as one fourth place finish, which is quite an accomplishment for a smaller school.  We always have a smashing time in badminton!

Curling

RJC consistetly send rinks in Mens, Women's and Mixed events.

Track & Field

RJC athletes have often done very well in the spring track and field season.  Aiding in preparation is a rubberized indoor track mat.

Ice Hockey

Hockey at RJC

In the middle of the Canadian heartland, RJC students have the opportunity to play hockey in cooperation with the local Rosthern Minor Hockey Association.  RJC also has its own covered natural ice indoor rink, maintained by the students.

RJC students register with the Rosthern Minor Hockey Association playing on the Rosthen Midget Wheat Kings.  The team plays in the local Saskatchewan Valley Minor Hockey League and supplements its’ season with exhibition games, tournaments and competes  in the SAHA Provincial “A” playoffs.

The 2010-2011 team enjoyed an excellent year winning both league and playoff competition in the SVMHL.  The team only lost two games all year, both to the SAHA Midget “A” finalists.  The Midget Wheat Kings are looking ahead to another great season of good, fast-paced hockey.
