The majority of the student body registers and participates in Concert Choir, where they earn their Choral 10/20/30 credit. Because of the size of the choir, it is usually divided into two sections who meet on alternate days. The two sections are brought together just before major performances, such as Opening Program, Christmas Concert, Music Festival and Spring Concert.
The Choral 10/20/30 credit is earned through participation and musical development. Attention is given to breathing, posture, notation, and vocal development.
Members of Concert Choir have a uniform that they are responsible to provide:
Navy dress code shirt (each student may get one at registration)
Black dress pants (not jeans or athletic wear)
Black socks
Black shoes (formal)
At the end of the year, a CD with featuring the best of the choirs is made available to the students for purchase.
Chorale is chosen by audition in late September or early October. The choir meets after school twice a week. Singers in Chorale are committed to a more intense musical experience and schedule. It is not unusualy for Chorale to perform more than 30 times a year! The schedule almost always includes a Spring Tour, usually to Alberta. Occassionaly they have longer tours to places as far away as Toronto, Vancouver, or the United States.
Chorale is a regular participant in the Canadian Association of Mennonite Schools Music Festival, hosted on a rotating basis every 3 or 4 years by member schools. RJC hosted in 1994 and again in 2005. The next festival is scheduled for Calgary in 2014.
Auditions are based on an interview, a prepared piece, and a sight reading test. Usually Chorale is between 25 and 35 singers.
Chorale gets to wear the blue gowns for formal performances. For more informal occasions they have a performace tshirt that can be dressed up as much as necessary by wearing either black pants or jeans.
The year end CD of choir highlights also features Chorale quite prominently.
At various times in the year, other choirs will be formed for special occassions. Most often they are either a male choir (ManChoir) or female voices only (Women's Choir.)

Every year a major Broadway-style musical is performed in June. It consistently involves the majority of the students in some manner. Past performances have included classics like "The Sound of Music", "Fiddler On The Roof", "West Side Story" and most of the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. We have also pushed boundaries with shows like "Jesus Christ Superstar", "Anything Goes", "Crazy For You" and "Children of Eden".
The Arts Education classes prepare smaller musicals and dramas in our intimate Pit Theatre.
