Looking back at his time at RJC, Rudy
Wiens (1951) says it helped shape the
course of his life. He remembers once
being called into the principal’s office in trouble, but instead of getting a lecture he says, the principal told him, “‘you can do better than that,’” Rudy says. “This statement has stayed with me during the rest of my life.”

of apprehension on both sides. It was
2006 and a group of Mennonite farmers
with land around Laird, Saskatchewan
were meeting with representatives of
Stoney Knoll First Nation to talk about
their land claim. Tensions were high
around land claims in Canada at
the time, with volatile and public
confrontations taking place in
Caledonia, Ontario and with Sun
Peaks resort in B.C.

RJC receives generous legacy gift from Elizabeth & John Armbruster

For her Grade 12 year, Elizabeth Armbruster (Zacharias, 1944), known
as Beth among her family and friends, decided to leave her family farm near Meadow Lake, Sask. to attend RJC (then known as the German-English Academy). She was determined to prepare herself to attend normal school to become a teacher after graduation.

New ways of seeing God: RJC students connect with youth at Calgary Chin Christian Church

When they first arrived at Calgary Chin Christian Church, Wendell Manuzon (grad 2022) had a moment when he wondered “is this a church?” Instead of an independent building like the churches he was used to, this church was in a strip mall. But once he was inside the question quickly faded. “When we got inside I knew it was a church because the people were so welcoming and made me feel at home.”
