A message to students, parents, and families about a cybersecurity incident that potentially impacts RJC data.
PowerSchool, a student information software provider, was the target of a cybersecurity incident which has impacted school divisions across North America. PowerSchool confirmed that RJC data was part of the cybersecurity incident. RJC uses PowerSchool as a third-party provider for the management of school data, and has done so for several years.
PowerSchools indicates that the data primarily includes parent, student, and teacher contact information. This includes elements like names and addresses. PowerSchool has undertaken an analysis of this incident and allocated resources for additional actions, if necessary.
This week we were made aware that PowerSchool may begin providing legal notice of the cybersecurity incident to current and former students, and educators whose information was determined to be involved.
PowerSchool is also launching a website and distributing additional information to provide families with resources to protect their information. Importantly, these notices will include instructions for involved individuals on how to enroll in the credit monitoring and identity protection services that are being offered by PowerSchool.
